The freshman finished the week averaging 20.5 points per game while knocking down better than 50 percent of her three-point attempts.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wake Forest women's basketball freshman guard Jewel Spear was named to the ACC All-Tournament team, as announced by the league office on Sunday afternoon.

The Colony, Texas native was one of just two freshmen to be named to the ACC All-Tournament team, earning second team honors. This marks the second consecutive year a Wake Forest player has earned tournament honors as Ivana Raca was a first team selection after averaging 20.5 points in the Deacs' run to the 2020 ACC Tournament Quarterfinals.

Earlier this week she was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team while also earning All-ACC Academic Team honors.

A Record Performance

Spear helped Wake Forest reach the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals for the second consecutive season with the help of a career performance in the second round against in-state rival, North Carolina.

The freshman guard dropped a career-high 29 points in the victory over the Tar Heels, tying the highest mark by a Demon Deacon this season while also being the second most points by a player in the 2021 ACC Tournament.

In the victory, Spear tied an ACC Tournament record, becoming the sixth player in the tournament's history to knock down seven threes in a single contest. For the game, she finished 7-of-10 from distance while shooting 66.7 percent overall from the field.

Additionally, she had a team-high and career-high three steals and three blocks in the 82-71 victory over North Carolina. It marked the second consecutive season Wake Forest eliminated the Tar Heels in their first game in the ACC Tournament. Since 2016, the Demon Deacons have won six of the last nine matchups including holding a 4-1 record in the last five games between the two schools.

Matching Up with the Top Seed

She also proved to be key in the Deacs quarterfinal matchup with No. 5-nationally ranked Louisville as Wake Forest was tied with the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament after three quarters. For the fourth consecutive game, Spear finished in double figures with 12 points.

The freshman was also key on the defensive end of the floor. Wake Forest limited the most potent offense in the league, one that came in averaging 80.5 points per game, to just 65 points. The Cardinals were limited to just just 43 percent shooting.

Spear and the Demon Deacons did an exceptional job of containing two-time reigning ACC Player of the Year Dana Evans, who finished the afternoon just 3-of-15 from the field and eight points after coming in averaging a league-best 21.0 points.

It ended Evans streak of consecutive games in double figures. Prior to the afternoon, she had reached that mark in every game this season and 40 straight games overall, which was the longest streak at Louisville in the last 20 years.
