Wake Forest Set to Begin NCAA Regional Play

5/16/2021 12:06:00 PM | Men's Golf

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf begins NCAA Regional play Monday morning. The Deacs are the No. 1 seed in the 14-team field that includes five top 25 teams in the latest GolfStat rankings.

Wake Forest is currently ranked No. 6 in GolfStat and No. 8 in Golfweek. They finished fifth at ACC Championships April 25 after a thrilling final round of stroke play with ACC Champions Florida State and Georgia Tech.

Wake Forest won two team titles, tied for first and took home three individual titles this season. They opened the season tying for first place at the Seminole Invitational with host school Florida State in January. The Deacs then took home the team titles and Michael Brennan took home the individual titles at the Kiawah Invitational in February and the Wake Forest Invite at Pinehurst No. 2 in March. Alex Fitzpatrick also took home the individual title at the Valspar Collegiate later in March where the Deacs finished second.

Course
The Cle Elum regional will be played at the par-71, 7,069-yard Tumble Creek Club in Cle Elum, Washington with the University of Washington serving as the host institution.

Tom Doak is recognized as one of the finest living golf course designers in the world. Golf Digest ranked three of his courses (Pacific Dunes at Bandon Dunes, Cape Kidnappers, and Barnbougle) among the top 50 in the world in 2005. As well, The Tumble Creek Golf Course in Washington State was named one of the top private courses in America by Golf Digest.

With Tumble Creek, Tom Doak has captured the spirit of its rolling hills that flow through pine forests, along river bluffs, and across expansive meadows ringed by soaring peaks. Known as a minimalist designer, Doak "found" the course in the land and moved as little earth as possible creating this extraordinary Cle Elum golf course. The realization of Doak's artistry and vision have created a legacy for Tumble Creek Club members for generations to come.

There will be three rounds of stroke play over three days. The top five teams and the top individual of a non-advancing team from the Regional will advance to NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Arizona May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club.
