
Anna Campana Advances to NCAA Championships Round of 32

She became the first Wake Forest women’s tennis player to advance in the singles championship since 2005.
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Wake Forest women's tennis sophomore Anna Campana advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Singles Championship on Sunday afternoon.
She became the first Demon Deacon to advance to the Round of 32 since Karin Coetzee in 2005.
Anna Campana dominated from the opening point, racing out to a 6-0 first-set victory. Heading into the second set, she was down 2-0 and 3-2 before taking control for good. Anna Campana won the final four games in the second set to claim the straight-set victory.
She advances to play Bunyawi Thamchaiwat of Oklahoma State on Monday in the Round of 32.
Carolyn Campana, who entered the event as a top-16 national seed, battled in a three-set defeat in her opening round matchup against Yulia Starodubsteva of Old Dominion. After dropping the opening frame, the junior fought back to take the second frame, 6-4.
Despite a closely contested final frame, Campana fell 6-3 in the third.
