Eliza Omirou and Carolyn Campana became the fourth Wake Forest women’s tennis duo to advance to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Doubles Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Wake Forest women's tennis pairing Carolyn Campana and Eliza Omirou advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Doubles Championship on Monday.

The duo became the fourth Demon Deacon pair to advance to the Round of 16 and the first since Kayla Duncan and Kathryn Talbert in 2011. Additionally, it is the first time since the 2002 season, the Demon Deacons had players advance in singles and doubles brackets.

Campana and Omirou Advance

Carolyn Campana and Omirou jumped out to an early, commanding lead, taking the first five games in the opening frame en route to a 6-1 first-set victory over the Duke pairing of Bilokin and Chi. After dropping the second frame 1-6, the match hung in the balance as it went to a decisive third set.

The Deacs duo jumped out to an early 4-2 lead and did not look back from there, winning the third-set tiebreaker 10-4 to advance to the Round of 16. There Carolyn Campana and Omirou will play Das and Garcia of Florida State.

Anna Campana's Run Ends

After Anna Campana became the first Wake Forest women's tennis player to advance in the singles championship since 2005 on Sunday, she advanced to play Bunyawi Thamchaiwat of Oklahoma State on Monday in the Round of 32.

She had a fast start to the day, jumping out to a 4-2 lead in the opening frame. Campana was unable to close out the set, dropping the first set, 7-5. After battling in the second set, she ultimately fell in straight sets, dropping the second set, 6-2.

Brylin and Killingsworth Battle Against the Nation's No. 1

For much of their match, Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth looked like they might pull off the upset of the No. 1 doubles team in the nation in Kentucky's Akvilė Paražinskaitė and Fiona Arrese. The Wake Forest pairing captured the first set after battling back from an early hole, winning 7-5.

The match went the distance as Kentucky grabbed the second frame. Unfortunately, the upset bid fell short as the Wildcats took the third-set tiebreaker, 10-4, and eliminated Brylin and Killingsworth from the NCAA Doubles Championship.
