Eliza Omirou and Carolyn Campana became the fourth Wake Forest women’s tennis duo to advance to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Doubles Championships and the first since 2011.
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The run for the Wake Forest women's tennis pairing of Carolyn Campana and Eliza Omirou ended in the Round of 16 in the NCAA Doubles Championship Tuesday.
Campana and Omirou had a closely contested battle against Garcia and Das of Florida State, who were ranked No. 8 in the latest ITA Doubles Rankings, all night long in Orlando, Fla.
The teams traded games early in the first set as it was tied 2-2 through four games. After falling behind 5-2 in the frame, Wake Forest worked their way back into the set, winning back-to-back games to make it a 5-4 set. Unfortunately, Florida State took the next game to win the set, 6-4.
Campana and Omirou took control of the second set early, winning the first game and eventually taking a 3-1 lead. With Campana on serve at 4-4, Wake Forest took a 5-4 lead, moving just one game away from a third set.
The second set eventually went to a 6-6 tiebreaker where Florida State took control, winning 7-2 to defeat the Demon Deacons in two sets.
The duo became the fourth Demon Deacon pair to advance to the Round of 16 and the first since Kayla Duncan and Kathryn Talbert in 2011. Additionally, it is the first time since the 2002 season, the Demon Deacons had players advance in singles and doubles brackets.

It ends a brilliant career for senior Eliza Omirou, who along with then doubles partner MC Meredith earned ITA All-America honors a season ago. They became the first Demon Deacons to earn All-America honors since 2002.
Additionally, the Demon Deacons have made the Round of 32 during all three seasons the NCAA Tournament was contested in Omirou's career. The 2020 NCAA Tournament did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
