Five Demon Deacons Set to Start at U.S. Amateur Monday

The 121st U.S. Amateur will be contested at historic Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa. starting on Monday.
OAKMONT, Pa. -- Five Wake Forest men's golfers are scheduled to start their run towards the 121st U.S. Amateur Championship, starting on Monday in Oakmont, Pa.
Collin Adams, Alex Fitzpatrick, Parker Gillam, Scotty Kennon and Clay Stirsman will all contest for the prestigious crown. Golf Channel and Peacock will have coverage of the event starting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11 during match play from the historic grounds of Oakmont Country Club.
Fitzpatrick, Gillam and Stirman all played a key role in the Demon Deacons' run to a top-15 finish at the NCAA Championships with Gillam posting the Deacs' best individual finish with a tie for 13th. Fitzpatrick, who earned PING First Team All-America honors, recorded the lowest stroke average on the team with a mark of 70.41. He goes into the season ranked fourth on the PGA Tour University list and is the highest international player.
They will be joined by Adams and Kennon who are set to join the Wake Forest squad for their freshman season this year.
Format
The first two days (August 9 and 10) will consist of two rounds of stroke play at two separate courses. Each player will play an 18-hole round at Oakmont Country Club and Longue Vue Club with the top 64 players advancing to the match play portion of the tournament.
Match play will begin with the Round of 64 on Tuesday, August 10. One round will be contested each day.
The 36-hole championship match is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday, August 15.
Course Information
Introduced in 1903 by designer Henry Fownes, Oakmont Country Club has hosted more combined USGA and PGA championships than any other course in the U.S., including nine United States Opens, five U.S. Amateurs, three PGA Championships, and two U.S. Women's Opens.
Oakmont remains perhaps the most difficult course in North America, with 175 deep bunkers (personified by the Church Pews), hard and slick greens that slope away from the player, and tight fairways requiring the utmost precision. Golf Digest ranks Oakmont #5 in its most recent version of America's Top 100 courses.
