The Wake Forest great Will Zalatoris was named as one of two finalists for the Arnold Palmer Award given to the Rookie of the Year on the PGA Tour.
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Despite not being an official PGA Tour member this past season, the tour announced Tuesday that former Wake Forest men's golfer Will Zalatoris is up for the tour's Rookie of the Year honors, the Arnold Palmer Award.
The Rookie of the Year Award named after the former Demon Deacon legend Arnold Palmer was just recently renamed in 2019 to pay tribute to one of the game's greatest players.
Zalatoris became one of the stars of the PGA Tour during the 2020-21 season, announcing his place as one of the game's best during the 85th Masters in April. In his debut in the game's most historic tournament, Zalatoris finished as the runner up in the event.
This helped him earn Special Temporary Membership for the remainder of the season.
In total, Zalatoris entered 25 events with eight top-10s highlighted by the runner-up at the 2021 Masters Tournament. He led the non-member FedExCup standings with 1,296 points
In those 25 events played, he recorded a total of 14 top-25s and made 21 cuts.
After finishing 14th on the Korn Ferry Tour standings, Zalatoris enters the 2021-22 season as a full-time member of the PGA TOUR for the first time.
The Rookie of the Year award is determined by a member vote, with PGA TOUR members who played in at least 15 official FedExCup events during the 2020-21 season eligible to vote.
The voting will close on Friday, Sept. 10, at 5 p.m. ET. The winners will be announced at a later date.
