1/29/2022 6:23:00 PM | Track and Field
CLEMSON, SC – The Demon Deacons started the final day of the Bob Pollock Invitational just as well as they ended the first at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Facility.
WOMEN'S 3000M: 3 PBs AND ALL-TIME FINISH
In the Women's 3000M, Mackenna Curtis-Collins paved the way with a third place finish, personal best and a spot of 3rd in Wake Forest history in this event.
Her teammates were not far behind. Catsimanes, Garrett, Rehm and Kopchak all finished in the top 25 in the event with Catsimanes and Garett cracking the top 15 and with Garrett and Kopchak earning personal bests.
FOUR TOP 10 FINISHES IN MEN'S 3000M
The Deacs competing in the Men's 3000m crossed the finish line one after the other as the group of Las Herras, Vanoppen, Tewalt, and De Pinillos finished in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th respectively.
Their achievements in this race go far beyond these results. Las Herras' third place finish of 7:55.09 is not only a personal best for the senior from Spain but also holds the school record in the event. However, his teammates are hot on his tail. Vanoppen, Tewalt, and De Pinillos currently stand at 2nd, 4th and 5th in school history. Not to mention, all four did so while recording their personal best 3000m times.
Lastly, sophomore Luke Tewalt now holds the American U20 Record for the 3000m race.
KITCHELL THIRD IN SHOT PUT
The field events from Saturday's action did not fall short of the rest of the team's success. Sophomore Thomas Kitchell's personal best throw of 18.49m placed him third on the day.
