The Deacs open the new season on Feb. 17-19 against Youngstown State and Illinois. Overall, Wake Forest will play 12 of its first 13 games of the new year inside David F. Couch Ballpark.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest baseball head coach Tom Walter announced the Demon Deacons' 2023 schedule on Monday. The slate features 30 Atlantic Coast Conference games across 10 weekend series, as well as 26 matchups against non-conference opponents.

"We are 109 days away from our home opener and it can't come soon enough," said Walter. "We had two successful scrimmages and have worked tirelessly off the field building our team culture. I really like our returning talent and we added several impact players between the portal and the freshmen class. We have big aspirations for this ballclub."  

2023 Schedule
Wake Forest opens the 2023 campaign with 12 of its first 13 games inside David F. Couch Ballpark, highlighted by opening weekend against Youngstown State and Illinois on Feb. 17-19 . 

After traveling to UNC Greensboro on Tuesday, Feb. 21 for its first road game, the Deacs will host eight-straight at The Couch versus Binghamton, Mount St. Mary's, Towson, UNC Wilmington, Purdue Fort Wayne, Ball State and Cornell. 

Home ACC play opens on March 17-19 as the Demon Deacons welcome the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to Winston-Salem. Wake Forest will also host Miami (March 24-26), NC State (April 7-9) and Boston College (May 5-7) before finishing off the regular season with a weekend series against Virginia Tech (May 18-20). 

The Deacs will hit the road for their first league series against Duke (March 10-12) and will make trips to Clemson (March 31-April 2), Louisville (April 14-16), Pitt (April 21-23) and Florida State (May 12-14) in ACC competition. 

In non-conference action, Wake Forest will play a home-and-home with UNC Wilmington, Coastal Carolina, Elon, High Point, App State, Liberty, UNC Greensboro and App State.

2023 Season Outlook
Wake Forest returns 24 players from the 2022 season that included 41 victories, the fifth most in program history, the largest year-to-year turnaround in program history. 

The Deacs were selected to the 2022 NCAA Baseball Tournament, the program's 14th appearance in the national playoffs and the third tournament appearance in Walter's tenure, after posting the program's seventh 40-win season. Wake Forest ended the regular season with 39 wins, tying the 1999 Demon Deacons for the second-most regular season wins in program history.

The 2022 Deacs posted one of the best offensive seasons in program history and Division I baseball. Wake Forest set program records in home runs (122), walks (364), RBIs (535), runs scored (561), runs per game (9.1), slugging percentage (.548), 20-run games (four), 20-run games in ACC play (two), runs in ACC game (27) and hits in an ACC game (28) while ranking in the top-10 nationally in every offensive category and leading the conference in walks, hits, home runs and runs. 

Overall, the Demon Deacons welcome back a ton of production in 2023. Offensively, Wake Forest will return 75.2 percent of its at-bats, 74.8 percent of its base hits, 71.8 percent of its RBIs and 67.2 percent of its home runs. 

2022 team captain Adam Cecere and Pierce Bennett are set to return for their fourth collegiate season, while Brock Wilken, who has hit the most home runs ever by a Demon Deacon through their first two seasons, returns after starting in 60 games at third base a year ago. 

Nick Kurtz and Tommy Hawke look to post big sophomore seasons after receiving Freshman All-America honors in 2022. 

80.6 percent of its innings and 80.8 percent of its strikeouts are back on the mound, highlighted by the return of its whole weekend rotation that consists of unanimous All-American and reigning ACC Pitcher of the Year Rhett Lowder, Josh Hartle and Teddy McGraw and multiple productive bullpen arms, highlighted by 2022 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List selection Camden Minacci.
