Deacs Open Bahamas Trip Against Missouri Monday

This marks the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Demon Deacons will travel outside of the United States for a regular season contest, starting the tournament against Missouri on Monday evening.

NASSAU, Bahamas – After remaining unbeaten at home this season with a win against Mercer on Thursday, the Wake Forest women's basketball team travels out of the country for the first time since 2014, taking part in the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship. The first game comes against Missouri on Monday evening from Nassau, Bahamas.

The Deacs (3-1) are looking to continue their winning ways in the non-conference slate after picking up wins over Mercer on Thursday afternoon. The Demon Deacons had a balanced attack in the win with four players finishing in double figures. Wake Forest also got a key contribution from freshman Kate Deeble in her home debut, totaling eight points and three assists which all came in her third quarter stint.

The Tigers (5-0) have collected four of their five wins at home this season including playing three games in the last week. Missouri has been one of the best defensive teams in the country to start the season with teams averaging just 48.2 points per game in their five wins. Additionally, the Tigers have been one of the least fouled teams in the country as their 14.0 fouls per game rank 32nd nationally and leads the SEC.

CLEANING THE GLASS

Through four games this season, junior forward Demeara Hinds has been one of the best players on the glass in the country, pulling down 39 rebounds. Additionally, she has collected 19 offensive rebounds.

Through four games played, she ranks second among all Power-5 players with that offensive rebound total and her total is tied for fifth nationally.

Additionally, her 39 total rebounds ranks 24th nationally and leads the ACC. In each of her four games, she has increased her rebounding total in every game, pulling down a season-best 12 rebounds in the win over Mercer on Tuesday.

  • The Deacs were led by balanced scoring across the board. Senior forward Olivia Summiel led the team with 13 points on 5-of-9 (56 percent) shooting in addition to eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Raegyn Conley finished with 11 points while shooting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. 

  • Sophomore guard Elise Williams had a solid statline of 10 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals. Junior guard Jewel Spear recorded 10 points and six rebounds.

  • Wake Forest had five players in double figures, led by Amber Campbell with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting while going 4-of-4 from long range. 

  • Kortni Simmons and Destini Walker finished the evening with 14 points apiece and Ataijah Taylor posted 11 points. 

  • Milan Quinn also scored 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

CHASING 1,000

After breaking the program record with 30 double-figure scoring games, netting the fourth-most points in school history a season ago with 567 and leading the ACC in scoring with 18.3 points per game, junior Jewel Spear has put herself in position to join exclusive company in the 1,000-point club early in the season.

She goes into the Missouri game with 904 career points, just 96 points away from becoming the 30th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.

STANDOUT STAT

The Deacs will look to continue its winning ways in regular season non-conference action, winning 12 of 13 over the last two seasons. The lone loss came at the hands of Nebraska in the 2021 ACC-Big Ten Challenge. The Cornhuskers went on to earn a No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament last season.
