Coach's Comments
"I want to compliment App State on a really well played game. Dustin Kerns has a good basketball team. I watched a lot of film on them and I really thought coming in here that they have a really nice team, they have nice pieces. We were worried about them shooting the three, because they have six guys on the team that have made double-digit threes. A positive for us tonight was them only making five. Now, they made a big one late, and credit to them. In the first half they had us on our heels, the entire half we couldn't guard them. We had no pop, no energy. They were just kind of out there playing horse, so we fixed it in the second half and guarded them a heck of a lot better, but a lot of credit to them. When we were in the huddle there, with five seconds or whatever was left, when they had to go out of bounds, the first thing out of everybody's mouth on my staff was 'Syracuse'. You gotta believe. Last year, Syracuse had the ball out of bounds right there and couldn't move, turned it over, we threw it in and dunked it, then we went to overtime and won the game. So you got to believe. We did a really good job of denying them. We did a good job of staying in front. Andrew was on the ball, he's long and he just made it hard for him to throw that pass because he couldn't move. The hard thing with the last-second play was I didn't know how much time we were gonna have. The honest truth is we drew a play on the fly and executed and won the game. These guys can really execute things. Andrew did a great job coming off the screen and slipping to the open area." - head coach Steve Forbes
