PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The No. 12 Wake Forest men's golf team is set to challenge for the Watersound Invitational title this week in Panama City Beach, Fla.
There will be a host of fellow Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the field as 12 of 14 teams come from the conference. According to the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll, there are five teams ranked in the Top 25 competing in this year's field: No. 5 North Carolina, No. 6 Arkansas, No. 12 Wake Forest, No. 15 Notre Dame and No. 17 Georgia Tech.
The Demon Deacons will be in search of their second tournament victory as a team this season after winning the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational at the end of September.
It has been a busy week for the team as earlier this week three Demon Deacons competed in the Genesis Collegiate Showcase at Riviera with sophomore Michael Brennan, winning the event and earning his PGA Tour debut this week at the Genesis Invitational. Brennan narrowly missed the cut on Friday at historic Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif.
Additionally, senior Parker Gillam secured his pro golf future after this season, earning his Canadian Tour card on Friday after finishing in the top 10 of qualifying school.
Tomorrow's first round is scheduled for a 10:20 a.m. ET start with the Demon Deacons teeing off hole No. 10. Wake Forest will play with host NC State and Virginia.
