Kennon’s Round Highlights Opening Day at Watersound Invitational

This marked the fifth under-par round for the freshman in just his 13th collegiate round.
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. -- Freshman Scotty Kennon led the Wake Forest men's golf team in the opening round of the Watersound Invitational on Sunday.
The freshman from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. was the low score for the Demon Deacons from the opening few holes of the tournament. He birdied two of the first three holes on No. 11 and No. 12 to quickly get to 2-under. He remained at 2-under par heading into the turn.
On the back nine, he was as low as 3-under par before ultimately turning in a first round score of 70 (-2). In his 13th collegiate round, this marked his fifth time having a below-par round and fourth time at 2-under or better.
He heads into Monday tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard. Wake Forest as a team sits in ninth with a first round score of 295 (+7), but also just four strokes back of fifth and just 10 back of first place.
Joining Kennon inside of the top 30 are seniors Alex Fitzpatrick and Parker Gillam. Both carded first round score of 74 (+2) and tied for 30th entering the second round.
The Demon Deacons will tee off their second round of play on Monday at 11:20 a.m., playing alongside Virginia and Notre Dame off hole one.

"We will be back here in two months and need to make some adjustments on some holes. I had to quit counting doubles and triples. Take those away and make them bogeys and we have a really good day. We will be a better team tomorrow going off hole No. 1. As long as we keep learning this course, it'll be very important moving forward. Go Deacs!"
