Wake Forest Cards Under-Par Second Round at Watersound Invitational

A near flawless second round from senior Parker Gillam highlighted the day for the Demon Deacons, who finished Monday one-under as a team.
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. -- Led by a pair of under-par rounds from seniors Alex Fitzpatrick and Parker Gillam, the Demon Deacons finished Monday under par as a team in the second round of the Watersound Invitational.
Gillam carded his lowest round of the season relative to par in the second round. His 68 (-4) effort was one of the 10 best scores in the 72-player field and helped boost him on the individual leaderboard. After being tied for 30th after 18 holes, Gillam rose 20 spots and is in a tie for 10th heading into the final round.
It could be the seventh career top-10 finish for Cary, N.C. native who owned a 72.04 career stroke average entering the tournament, ranking ninth in program history.
Fitzpatrick, who will be in search of his fifth consecutive top-25 finish, shaved three strokes off his Sunday score. He ended round two with a 71 (-1). He was under par for much of Monday after a birdie on the par-four fourth. Briefly, the Sheffield, England native was 2-under for the round before his lone bogey of the day brought him back to 1-under. This was the ninth time in 17 rounds played this season that Fitzpatrick has been below par.
Wake Forest also carded an under-par round as a team, ending the day with a score of 287 (-1), eight strokes better than a day ago. The other three Demon Deacons finished 2-over for the day.
The Demon Deacons will tee off their final of play on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., playing alongside host Florida State off hole No. 10.
