Kuehn Leads Deacs on Day One of Northrop Grumman

Palos Verdes, Calif. – The Wake Forest women's golf team was led by junior Rachel Kuehn on the opening day of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. The Deacs sit six strokes off the lead in sixth place and Kuehn leads the field of 84 after the first 18 holes.
Wake Forest as a team was second in the field in birdies, with the team recording a total of 16 in round one. Kuehn was second in field in birdies during round one, finishing with six. She also led all players in scoring on par-threes and was second in the field in scoring on par-fours. Five Kuehn's six birdies came on her first nine holes and made the turn at four under. A back-to-back birdie and bogey on her second nine helped her finish the second nine at even par to remain at four under for the day.
Every Deac in the field recorded at least birdies throughout their round, with Carolina Chacarra and Virunpat Olankitkunchai recording three before the days end. Playing as an individual, Vanessa Knecht recorded one of the only eagles in the field on the par-three 15th.
Monday's second round will begin with tee times starting at 12 p.m. Wake Forest will tee off hole one at noon in 12-minute intervals and will be paired with Arizona, Arizona State and USC.
