3/25/2022 6:57:00 PM | Women's Golf
ATHENS, Ga. – The Wake Forest women's golf team leads the field after the first 18 holes of the Liz Murphey Collegiate.
Wake Forest led the field with 56 pars in the first round and was second in scoring on par three holes. Lauren Walsh and Carolina Chacarra recorded the second-most birdies in the field with four each. The most was five.
Freshman Carolina Chacarra led the way for the Deacs on the first nine holes, starting off with a birdie on her first hole and then three in a row on her sixth, seventh and eighth before making the turn four under and leading the field. A difficult stretch on the second nine holes put at one over for the day and T12 on the leaderboard.
Lauren Walsh and Mimi Rhodes had arguably the most balanced play of the day, with each of them recording at least two birdies. Walsh was the only Deac with multiple on the second nine, with two on her first nine and two on her second nine before ending the day one over par. Rhodes had one birdie on the first and one on the second to also finish one over. Chacarra, Walsh and Rhodes are inside the top 15 at T12 on the individual leaderboard.
Virunpat Olankitkunchai finished round one two over and Rachel Kuehn is currently three over. Both players sit in the top 30 at T22 and T26, respectively.
Second Round
Saturday's afternoon wave of the second round will begin at 12:30 p.m. Wake Forest will be paired with Mercer.
