Top-Seeded Demon Deacons Begin Postseason Play at ACC Championships

4/13/2022 4:42:00 PM | Women's Golf

Pawleys Island, S.C. – The No. 4 Wake Forest women's golf team begins play at the ACC Championships at The Reserve Golf Club as the number one seed. The Deacs are joined by Virginia as the only two ACC teams inside the top 10 nationally, according to Golfstat.

Wake Forest is coming off a third-place finish at the Liz Murphey Collegiate after winning four of their eight regular season events. The Deacs never finished outside the top four of any events.

Junior Rachel Kuehn and freshman Carolina Chacarra each have two individual titles on the year so far. They were both also named to the ANNIKA Award Watch List and earned ACC Golfer of the Month honors for February (Chacarra) and March (Kuehn). Kuehn leads the Deacs with a 70.54 stroke average over 24 rounds and Chacarra is right behind her with a 71.00 average.

Kuehn won the Tar Heel Invite in the fall where the Deacs also took home the trophy and won the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in March where Wake Forest came in second. The win also earned her an LPGA exemption into the JTBC Championship at Palos Verdes at the end of April.

Chacarra won her first collegiate title at the UCF Challenge in February where the Deacs took home the team title. She followed up win number one with win number two at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, where Wake Forest won their second team title of the spring. With her second win, Chacarra became the first freshman to win multiple events since the 1991-92 season.
