Men’s tennis looks to carry momentum of regular-season success into its conference tournament.
ROME, GA - Entering the spring's first postseason test, Wake Forest men's tennis has its sights now set on the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships, scheduled to run April 20-24 in Rome, Georgia.
Having built an exceptional regular-season record of 31-5 overall, including an 11-1 clip in the conference, the Demon Deacons earned a double bye as the tournament's No. 2 seed. The team will head into Friday's quarterfinal round, taking on the winner of No. 7 Miami vs. No. 10 Georgia Tech at 12:30 p.m.
Wake Forest has won the ACC Championships team title three times throughout program history -- back in 2016, 2018, and 2019.
During last year's conference championships, the Deacs advanced to the semifinals, eventually falling in a 4-3 finish to North Carolina, who was ranked No. 4 in the country at the time.
The Event
The 2022 ACC Men's Tennis Championships opens on Wednesday (April 20) at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, with first-round competition scheduled for a 10 a.m. start time.
Second-round play will be held Thursday, followed by the quarterfinals on Friday. The semifinals will be played at 10 a.m. on Saturday, while Sunday's 10 a.m. championship match will wrap up the event.
The Saturday semifinal match, featuring the highest remaining seed, and the Sunday championship match will broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
Championship ticket passes are $25. One-day entry passes are $10 for adults and $7 for children (age 9-17) and non-ACC college students. Children (8 and under) and ACC college students (with proof of a valid ID) are admitted free of charge.
A Standout Spring
Wake Forest has impressed all throughout the spring as a unit, totaling its most wins in a season since 2018-19, when the program finished 34-4 overall.
Through four matches over its final weekend of regular-season play, the Deacons stretched their home record to 24-0. That mark of wins is officially now the most ever in a season throughout program history, surpassing the 20-0 home clip that Wake Forest held in 2018-19.
Additionally, during a 'Senior Day' victory over No. 19 Duke, Wake Forest grabbed its 19th consecutive regular-season victory against a 'Big Four' foe. Seventeen of those wins have happened over a ranked opponent as well.
Several individual Deacs have stood out in solo play, as four have recorded 15 or more singles victories:
-
Jakob Schnaitter: 21-2
-
Eduardo Nava: 18-7
-
Taha Baadi: 15-7
