
Wake Forest Welcomes Appalachian State for Non-Conference Matchup

The Deacs head into their first meeting against the Mountaineers with a non-conference record of 17-1.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest baseball team returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 19 against Appalachian State inside David F. Couch Ballpark.
The first matchup of the home-and-home series is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
Fans can tune into an audio streaming broadcast through the Wake Forest Athletics app for all three games.

Wake Forest leads the all-time series against App State, holding a 47-15 advantage.
The first matchup between the two programs came in 1970. Last season, Wake Forest swept the season series against App State, outscoring the Mountaineers 27-7 in the two non-conference victories.

Freshman Nick Kurtz has strung together a stellar first collegiate campaign, tallying a .348 batting average with a team-high 49 hits to go along with a team-high tying 11 doubles and 10 home runs.

In the series finale against Clemson, Kurtz led Wake Forest at the plate with two home runs and a double, his fourth three-hit game and the second two-home run performance of the season. Kurtz also scored a team-high three runs.

With his pair of round trippers, Kurtz is now tied for eighth for most home runs by a freshman in program history. He joins Brock Wilken (17 in 2021) and Brendan Tinsman (10 in 2019) as the only first-year Deacs to reach double-digit home runs since 2010.

Additionally, Kurtz already ranks in the top-10 in runs scored (third) and walks (tied for fourth) by a freshman in program history.

In Wake Forest's historic offensive performance on March 19 at Georgia Tech, Kurtz had a historic day at the plate as the freshman became the first Wake Forest batter since 2005 to record six hits in the game. This is also tied for the second most in program history and is the most by a freshman in school history.

Eric Adler is set to make his first career start against the Mountaineers on Tuesday.

Over his career, the Rockledge, Fla. native has made 36 relief appearances, tossing 36.2 innings with 52 strikeouts while allowing just 13 earned runs.

Adler headed into the season fresh off an award-winning summer as the right hander was named the Cape Cod Baseball League's Relief Pitcher of the Year.
