WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball program and head coach Steve Forbes have announced the addition of Tyree Appleby to the roster for the 2022-23 season. This will be his final year of eligibility.
"Tyree possesses tremendous speed and quickness," said Forbes. "He is a very accomplished and productive play maker, who stays in constant attack mode on offense and defense. His ability to get downhill off the dribble to make plays for himself and his teammates is one of his best qualities. Tyree has scored over 1,500 points, made over 200 three-point shots and dished out over 500 assists in his college career. We are excited to have him in our program."
The 6-1 guard comes to Winston-Salem from the University of Florida where he spent the past two seasons. He averaged 10.9 points, 3.7 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 27.4 minutes per game last season. Prior to being a Gator, Appleby spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Cleveland State.
A regular in the Gators' starting lineup throughout his two seasons, he led the Gators in assists both years. Appleby tallied 1,552 points and 504 assists over his four seasons, scoring 653 points and dishing out 207 assists in 59 games played with 44 starts for the Gators. He scored 899 points and dished 297 assists in 63 games at Cleveland State, starting in 54 of his final 55 games.
A native of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Appleby posted four 20-point games as a Gator, including a 26-point performance in a win against No. 2 Auburn February 19. He recorded his first career triple-double while at Cleveland State, tallying 19 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists his freshman year against UW-Milwaukee. During his sophomore year he found success against Milwaukee again, recording 33 points. He recorded a career-high 37 points against Bowling Green that same season. Both of his 30-point games included seven made three-pointers.
