Zalatoris Leads at PGA Championship into the Weekend

Will Zalatoris who sits at 8-under-par is one of three Demon Deacons who will compete on the weekend at historic Southern Hills in Tulsa, Okla.
TULSA, Okla. – Led by Will Zalatoris, three Demon Deacons will head to the weekend at the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
Through 36 holes of play, Zalatoris leads the field, shooting 9-under-par and holding a one-stroke lead over the field. Once again the former Demon Deacon is looking to be a factor in the race for a major title.
So far in his career, he has finished second and sixth in his two starts at the Masters, tied for eighth in his lone start at the PGA Championship a year ago and tied for sixth at the U.S. Open in 2020.
After being tied for second with an opening round 66 (-4), Zalatoris built on that Friday, carding a bogey-free 65 (-5) to leap into the lead.
Zalatoris is one of three Deacs competing for the PGA Championship this week and all three advancing to the weekend in Tulsa, Okla.
After the opening round, Webb Simpson was tied for 16th after carding a 1-under-par round. He will enter Saturday tied for 67th.
PGA Tour rookie Cameron Young is making his PGA Championship debut this week and had an impressive performance in the second round to jump up the leaderboard. He went bogey free and tallied three birdies on the back nine to post a 67 (-3).
The round helped him move into the top ten and he will start Saturday trailing Zalatoris by seven strokes as he is 2-under-par for the tournament.
