Kurtz Earns Fifth Freshman All-America Honor from D1Baseball

The Lancaster, Pa. native continues to receive national recognition after one of the best freshman campaigns in program history.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest baseball's Nick Kurtz earned his fifth Freshman All-America honor, as D1Baseball selected the first baseman to its first team.
Kurtz also received First Team Freshman All-America honors from Perfect Game and Baseball America. Additionally, the Lancaster, Pa. native was recognized by the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball as one of the top rookies in the nation.
In addition to his five Freshman All-America nods, Kurtz was named a Third Team All-ACC, All-ACC Freshman Team and ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Region selection.
Kurtz posted one of the best freshman seasons in program history, tying the freshman runs scored record (65) and finishing in the top 10 in home runs (tied for second), walks (second), RBIs (tied for second), hits (ninth) and doubles (tied for ninth) by a Demon Deacon rookie.
Overall, the first baseman finished the 2022 season second on the team with 48 walks, a .637 slugging percentage and a .471 on-base percentage. Kurtz's 15 home runs ranked third on the squad, while registering the fourth-highest batting average (.338).
The Lancaster, Pa. native led the ACC with a .422 batting average and .548 on-base percentage in conference play and posted the second-highest OPS (1.254) and fifth-highest slugging percentage (.706) against ACC opponents.
Kurtz recorded a historic day at the plate in Wake Forest's 27-7 victory against Georgia Tech, becoming the first Wake Forest batter since 2005 to record six hits in a game while also driving in a career-high six runs. Kurtz's six hits are the second-most in program history and the most by a Wake Forest freshman ever.
The Lancaster, Pa. native was instrumental in Wake Forest's first series sweep in Raleigh on May 19-May 21, finishing 7-of-9 with two home runs, six RBIs and five runs scored in the final three games of the 2022 regular season.
