Wake Forest is one of five schools in the nation with multiple representatives on the 2022 Collegiate National Team.
CARY, N.C. – Wake Forest baseball's Rhett Lowder and Teddy McGraw were selected to Team USA's Collegiate National Team, as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.
The pair of Demon Deacon right handers were named to the 26-man roster after taking part in the Collegiate National Team's training camp last week.
Lowder made his first appearance in the red, white and blue on Friday, July 1, striking out six batters and allowing no earned runs in three innings to pick up the victory. Overall, Lowder's six strikeouts were tied for the most among all pitchers at training camp.
McGraw hit the mound in the opening intrasquad game of the Stars and Stripes series on Thursday, June 30, throwing two scoreless innings and fanning a pair of batters. McGraw made a relief appearance on Monday, July 4 in Charlotte, striking out a pair in the seventh and eighth inning.
Lowder and McGraw join Johnny Aiello (2017), Kyle Sleeth (2002), Bret Wagner (1993), Jake Austin (1989) and Erik Hansen (1985) as Wake Forest representatives on the national team. Additionally, Wake Forest is one of five schools in the nation with multiple players on this year's squad (Florida State, LSU, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt).
The duo and Team USA will travel to the Netherlands on Wednesday and begin Honkbalweek Haarlem on Saturday, July 9. The stars and stripes open against Japan at 8 a.m. ET and follow with games against Italy, Cuba, the Netherlands and Curacao to complete group play. All games will be streamed online via HonkbalSoftbal.tv.
The U.S. has competed at Honkbalweek Haarlem five times since 2000 and has earned four gold medals in that time, winning the championship in its most recent appearance at the event in 2014. Team USA also won gold in the event's 2000, 2002, and 2008 editions and earned a bronze medal in 2012.
