Demon Deacons Open Season at Home Against Milwaukee

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are set to open the regular season at home Thursday night, hosting the Milwaukee Panthers in a non-conference matchup.
 
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
 
Gates will open one hour prior to kickoff at 6 p.m.
 
FOLLOW LIVE
Thursday's contest will be streamed live on ACCNX, available online and through the ESPN app. Live stats will also be provided via Statbroadcast.
 
PROMOTIONS
The first 100 fans will receive free Chik Fil A and a t-shirt.
 
Anyone attending will get other women's soccer swag while supplies last.
 
NEW YEAR, NEW GOALS
The Deacs welcome twelve freshmen to the squad in 2022. This Wake Forest class is the 18th ranked class in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer.
 
Captains for the 2022 season include goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks, defender Giovanna DeMarco and midfielder Sophie Faircloth.
 
Parks returns as the #1 for the Demon Deacons following a strong 2021 season between the sticks. She has appeared in 29 games in her career, starting 28.
 
DeMarco is the only graduate player on the team and has been a huge part of the program since joining in 2018. She is the most experienced player on the team with 58 games and 54 starts.
 
Faircloth has started all 36 games she has appeared in over the last two seasons with the program. Her nine career goal contributions rank second on the team behind DeMarco.

SCOUTING MILWAUKEE
Milwaukee finished the season with a 19-2 record, including a perfect 11-0 Horizon League record to claim the regular season title. The Panthers went on to defeat Oakland by a score of 2-0 in the Horizon League Championship game to book their spot in the NCAA Tournament.
 
In the tournament, Milwaukee scraped out a 1-0 win at #14 Xavier to advance to the second round, before eventually falling to #2 Virginia by a score of 2-0.
 
UP NEXT
Wake Forest's home stand continues Sunday, Aug. 21 as the Rhode Island Rams travel to Winston-Salem. Kickoff for that matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium on ACC Network Extra.
