Open the Gate - Dr. Caryl Guth

  • Dr. Caryl Guth helped establish the Center for Integrative Medicine at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2003. Before that, the dedicated anesthesiologist worked in the Mills-Peninsula Hospital System in California for over 30 years. She will be leading the Demon Deacons out onto the field for the opening game of the season against VMI. Dr. Guth earned her bachelor's degree from Wake Forest in 1957 and her M.D. in 1962 before getting an internship with the University of Kansas Medical Center. She went on to earn a certification as a Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology. The Peoria, Ill. native was also an instructor at Radboud University in 1966 and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in 1965. The Wake Forest graduate has been a major part of the University and its athletics programs over the years. She is a current member of the Wake Forest Medical Alumni Association, serving as president from 2005 to 2006. She was a recipient of the Loyal Deacon Award in 2018 and Deacon Club Member of the Year Award in 2010. Dr. Guth also provides scholarships to the women's golf and basketball programs. Earlier in the day on Thursday, Sept. 1., the new on-campus Dr. Caryl Guth Women's Basketball Clubhouse will be dedicated in her honor. Today, she serves on the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame selection committee.

Freshman Tailgate & Field Run to Open 2022 Season

  • Along with the unique DEACTOWN Student Tailgate previously mentioned, Wake Forest Athletics will be hosting a tailgate for the Class of 2026 prior to Opening Night at Truist Field. Freshmen are invited to enter via Gate Four at Truist Field and proceed to the East Concourse to enjoy free food, live music, and more. Free t-shirts will be available while supplies last.

  • Additionally prior to the football team taking the field on Friday night, members of the Class of 2026 will be invited onto Truist Field for the traditional "Freshman Field Run." This once-in-a-lifetime experience allows each member of the freshman class to sprint across Truist Field, and stay to have the best view in the stadium as the Deacs take the field prior to kickoff. Details about how to take advantage of this experience will be provided to each student during Wake the Demons on August 31, on Hearn Plaza.
