
Volleyball Falls to Host Bobcats on Final Day of Invitational

Paige Crawford led Wake Forest in kills for the third time of her young career.
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Finishing its weekend stay in San Marcos, Wake Forest volleyball (6-3) stepped into day two of the 2022 Bobcat Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 11), facing the host team, Texas State (6-3). The end result went to the Bobcats' favor, as the Demon Deacons fell, 3-0 (17-25, 17-25, 17-25).
Paige Crawford and Ashley Slater registered nine and eight kills, respectively. Rian Baker tallied 16 assists while Andrea Fuentes added 13. Olivia Franke went 4-of-7 on attacks (.429).
On defense, Emma Farrell finished with a team-best 13 digs. Additionally, the first-year handed out two service aces. Wake Forest held the edge in that such category over Texas State (6-3).
Farrell and Slater were named to the Bobcat Invitational All-Tournament Team.
How it Happened

Immediately following a first kill by Emmy Ogogor, Emma Farrell laced back-to-back service aces for Wake Forest, as the score sat tied at 4-4 in set one.

The Deacs hung close early, as Peyton Suess soared for a tip kill and cut the Bobcats' lead to 8-6.

Ogogor and Audrey Douglas held down the front line defense, picking up a pair of assisted blocks.

Wake Forest soon called a timeout, down 15-10.

Ashley Slater punched a kill immediately out of the break.

Texas State continued to stay in front, bumping its advantage to 18-12 before another timeout took place.

Olivia Franke gave her team a few quick points, using kills and a service ace, trailing 20-16.

A final 5-1 run led to a first-set win by Texas State, 25-17.

For the third time in her young Demon Deacon career, first-year Paige Crawford led her squad in single-match kills, ending with nine against Texas State. The Wimberley, Texas native has recorded double-figures in four of her first six appearances:
