Good Morning Demon Deacon Nation!

LET'S GO! Thanks to Coach Tony da Luz and our Wake Forest women's soccer team, #BeatClemson weekend got off to an exciting start with a 4-1 victory over the No. 14 Tigers last night inside Spry Stadium!

The Deacons-Tigers fun continues at noon tomorrow with the highest-ranked matchup in the history of Truist Field, as No. 5 Clemson faces off with our No. 16-ranked gridiron Deacs in Winston-Salem in front of a national ABC television audience. It looks to be a beautiful, crisp fall morning and we anticipate a sellout, so grab a few more of the limited tickets remaining while they last!

Meanwhile after attending their classes today, our No. 1-ranked men's soccer team will travel to No. 10 Clemson for a 7 p.m. match tomorrow night that will be broadcast live on ACCNX. Coach Bobby Muuss' Demon Deacons are off to an 8-0 start and boast the nation's longest men's soccer home-winning streak at 13-straight matches, thanks in part to the unrivaled student and fan support at Spry Stadium!

Coach Randi Smart and the Wake Forest volleyball squad team will wrap-up the weekend's Old Gold & Black vs. Orange action with a 1 p.m. Sunday match at Clemson. Off to a 8-3 start, and now 27-6 in non-conference play since the 2019 season, our Demon Deacons left for Atlanta yesterday and will face Georgia Tech tonight at 7 p.m. before heading back up I-85 to Clemson for Sunday's match. Both matches will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and you can follow along on social media for updates here.

Back in Winston-Salem on Sunday, you can conclude your #DeaconWeekend with a slightly different shade of orange as women's soccer hosts Virginia Tech in Spry at 5 p.m. Tickets begin at just $10, or you can watch for free on Walt Chyzowych Hill or catch it live on ACCN.

Meanwhile, riding a five-game win streak following a win last Sunday at No. 23 Ohio State , your No. 15-ranked field hockey squad takes on No. 2 North Carolina today at 4 p.m. (on ACCNX) and will be in Boone on Sunday at 12 p.m. to face off with Appalachian State. Coach Jennifer Averill captured yet another milestone in her incredible career earning her 400th career-win at Wake Forest in our victory over Richmond a week ago today!

Finally before I get to the rest of the updates, I want to spotlight our nationally-ranked No. 10 men's cross country team and our regionally-ranked No. 6 women's squad. Both teams are back in action tomorrow at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Goal No. 4 - Win Championships!
Our No. 2-ranked women's golf team continued their hot start as they brought home their second-straight team title at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate earlier this week with a tournament-record 272 in the final round of play in Knoxville. The Deacs recorded the second-lowest team score in tournament history with their 21-under-par, 831.

Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational Tees off Monday in Winston-Salem
Meanwhile, seeing Cameron Young hit that 25-footer yesterday to win his match for the U.S.A. in the President's Cup is a great reminder that world-class college golf - and future #ProDeacs - will be on display for FREE (!) right here in Winston-Salem at at the world-renowned Old Town Club! Come check out the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday as the #19 Demon Deacons host this annual elite event.

Championship-Game Atmosphere Awaits on Saturday Afternoon at Truist Field
Coach Dave Clawson's 16th-ranked football team is ready to host No. 5 Clemson on Saturday in what is the highest top-25 national matchup of Week 4. The energy is palpable throughout our beautiful Reynolda Campus and we can't wait to see the passion and excitement tomorrow.

Last week's sellout Homecoming crowd of 32,891 provided great energy as the Deacs held off Liberty to move to 3-0 on the season. The tremendous fan and community support has created a huge home-field advantage for the Deacs as we are 19-2 inside Truist Field since 2019 and have won 11-straight games dating back to the 2020 season.

Please arrive at Truist Field early on Saturday. Wake Forest Athletics will open all stadium parking and tailgate lots at 7 a.m. and we encourage all fans to allow for extra time to park, enter and get to their seats before the game. We'll also open up the free DEACTOWN Fan Zone presented by Forsyth County Farm Bureau Insurance early with live music, food, and games for all ages. Be there for the Deacon Walk at approximately 9:30 a.m. as Sam Hartman, Rondell Bothroyd and company arrive for the game!

#ProDeacs Update: Hamby Wins Championship, Alums Make Big Plays
It has been an action-packed month for our alums in the professional ranks with the most recent great news coming last Sunday when Dearica Hamby ('15) and the Las Vegas Aces captured the 2022 WNBA Championship. Hamby, who played in the final six games of the playoff run after working herself back from an injury, has been with the franchise for her entire career after being selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft.

In the last 14 months, Wake Forest alums have captured NBA, WNBA and Super Bowl titles as Hamby joins John Wolford (Las Angeles Rams) and Jeff Teague (Milwaukee Bucks).

Our dozen Demon Deacons in the NFL are making each Sunday exciting with plays like this touchdown reception by Greg Dortch on Sunday and Boogie Basham's interception in Week 1!

It was exciting to see women's soccer alum and All-American Katie Stengel score a pair of goals in Liverpool's upset of defending champion Chelsea in the English Women's Super League opener last weekend! On the tennis courts, men's alum Borna Gojo downed No. 37-ranked Sebastian Baez in the Davis Cup last Saturday and on the pitch, Alistair Johnston (Canada) and Mark McKenzie (United States) got called up to their respective national team training camps for September friendlies ahead of the World Cup.

Winston-Salem Tip Off Classic Returns to Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum
Wake Forest women's and men's basketball will tip-off their seasons with exhibition games on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 against Winston-Salem State, respectively. We are proud of our partnership with WSSU in bringing our community together and I am really impressed with the leadership for both Winston-Salem and the Rams provided by my colleague, AD Etienne Thomas. With historic basketball heritage at both institutions, this will be a great two days for all those in the Triad as Deacs and Rams hit the hardwood in front of our passionate hoops fans.

Wake Forest women's basketball season tickets are on sale now. Adult season tickets begin at $50 and youth/senior season tickets start at $25. For men's basketball, options are available for traditional season tickets or our innovative "FLEX" pass option. ACC Board of Directors Announces Relocation of League Office to Charlotte
As a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, having our league headquarters within the Triad Community in Greensboro has been incredible. The entire city of Greensboro has been, and will continue to be, a tremendous partner including hosting future conference basketball tournaments inside the Greensboro Coliseum among other events.

With that said, I salute Commissioner Jim Phillips and the ACC Board of Directors for the thoughtful and transparent process which resulted in this week's announcement of the new ACC headquarters in Charlotte. From its original four-state regional footprint, we have grown to one of the nation's most important leagues with 15 institutions in 10 states. Keeping our headquarters in North Carolina, among the most dynamic states in the union, is a tremendous accomplishment and we appreciate Governor Roy Cooper and our legislative leaders for their commitment to the ACC as well.

Wake Forest has a vibrant academic presence in the Queen City, including our MBA programs, the new School of Professional Studies, and our second medical school campus in conjunction with Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist! We extend a welcoming hand to the ACC staff as they transition to Charlotte!
