Demon Deacons Host Seminoles in Late-Night Mid-Week Matchup

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will have its first home game of 2023 on Wednesday night (Jan. 11) when the Demon Deacons host the Florida State Seminoles. Tipoff is slated for 9 p.m. ET and the game will air live on ACC Network.
The Deacs (11-5, 3-2) are coming off their first win in the KFC Yum! Center, as they defeated the Louisville Cardinals, 80-72, for their first road conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon. Wake Forest has now downed the Cardinals in back-to-back contests, as the Deacs beat Louisville 99-77 last season at LJVM. It is the first time Wake Forest has beaten Louisville in consecutive meetings.
Opponents were shooting 34 percent from downtown against the Cardinals. Wake Forest shot 40.6 percent (13-of-32) from three-point range on Saturday. The Deacs' 13 makes are the second most in a game this season. Wake Forest held the Cardinals to just 32.1 percent from three Saturday. Wake Forest's 78 points in the KFC Yum! Center Saturday was the most allowed by the Cardinals this season and the most the Deacs have ever scored in that arena. Wake Forest had just 11 turnovers in the win over Louisville Saturday, the third-fewest in a game this season.
Damari Monsanto exemplified Wake Forest's strong shooting, as the redshirt junior poured in a team-high 21 points while succeeding on eight of 16 field goal attempts. Five of Monsanto's made shots were triples. It was his third season showing of 20 or more points.
Cameron Hildreth had his most efficient performance of the 2022-23 campaign. The Worthing, England native stacked 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting while hauling in eight rebounds in 31 minutes. Hildreth's point total tied his career high.
Tyree Appleby and Daivien Williamson chipped in 13 points apiece, as Wake Forest had four individuals score in double-digits for the second contest in a row. Appleby also orchestrated the offense with a game-high eight assists. Matthew Marsh contributed six points and eight rebounds in 23 minutes.
Wake Forest currently leads the ACC in three-point field goal percentage (.383) and three-pointers made (9.80/game) during conference play.
In his 22nd season at the helm of the Seminoles, Leonard Hamilton and his team are off to a 5-11 start and 3-2 clip in league play. They are coming off a home win over Georgia Tech, 75-64, to improve to 5-4 in the Tucker Center, although the Seminoles have yet to win a game away from Tallahassee. Florida State has four players averaging double-figure scoring in Matthew Cleveland (14.4), Darin Green Jr. (14.1), Caleb Mills (12.9) and Cam'Ron Fletcher (10.8). Fletcher also leads the 'Noles on the glass, pulling down an average of 7.5 rebounds per game.
