Deacs Fall to No. 8 Virginia at Home

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team fell 5-0 at Kentner Stadium on Friday night.

Wake Forest (5-7, 0-4 ACC) was outshot 18-4 in the match with Ellie Todd making four saves and Jodie Brine sending one shot back.

Mia Shoenbeck led the Deacs offensively with a pair of shots, while Anastasia Franco and Ava Moore both had a shot each.

How It Happened

UVA (8-5, 2-3 ACC) broke through 8:40 into the first off the stick of Noa Boterman for her fifth goal of the season.
The Cavaliers extended their lead just 13 seconds into the second with Laura Jannsen striking for her fourth of the season.
Wake Forest earned their first corner with 9:04 left in the second quarter.
- Shoenbeck sent the Deacs first shot wide of the cage.
The Demon Deacons picked up two more corners in the second with shots off both by Shoenbeck and Moore.
Virginia scored their third goal of the match 4:17 into the third with Taryn Tkachuk's fourth of the year.
The Cavaliers made it 4-0 with a goal by Adele Iacobucci for her third in 2023.
Brine entered at goal for Wake in the 4th making a save.
UVA scored their final goal 11:38 into the fourth as Jans Croon netted her first of the year.
The Deacs were held without a shot in the second half.
