The Deacs were again paced by freshman Brooke Wilson, who finished 18th individually.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Behind another excellent performance from freshman Brooke Wilson, the Wake Forest women's cross country team recorded a sixth-place finish at the XC23 College & Open Pre-Nationals Saturday at the Panorama Farms Cross Country Course in Charlottesville, Va.
With the result, the Demon Deacons have now finished sixth or better in every meet they've competed in during the 2023 slate. Individually, Wilson's 18th-place finish marked her third-consecutive meet finishing in the top-20.
Highlighted by an impressive 20:24.2 from Wilson, the Demon Deacons placed five runners in the top-75 to finish sixth in a field that featured eight teams that were either nationally ranked or receiving votes coming into Saturday.
As a team, the Deacs notched 218 points en route to Saturday's result. Graduate students Lydia van Dijk and Caroline Garrett placed 28th and 41st, respectively, while graduate student Madeline Rehm and junior Leigh Walters joined the duo to complete the Deacs' top-five spread.

From the Staff
"In our team meeting last night, we defined success as being resilient and gritty in the memory of someone we loved who always gave their best in every race. We chose not to focus on the outcome and instead focused on the effort we needed to give to honor them. The fight I saw from the women today was inspiring and I'm extremely proud of them. We can't wait to race again at the ACC Championship in two weeks." - associate head coach Ashley Bastron
