The Matchup
  • Friday night's matchup between Wake Forest and Notre Dame will pit the ACC's division leaders against each other on a national stage, as the Deacs sit atop the Atlantic while Notre Dame has already clinched at least a share of the Coastal.
  • Wake Forest is currently 11-1-3 on the year and 4-1-1 in ACC action while winning eight-straight matches overall and four-straight in conference play.
  • Notre Dame, meanwhile, is 10-1-3 on the year and is the ACC's lone team to not lose a conference match in 2023 at 5-0-1. The Fighting Irish have won six-straight matches overall and four-straight against ACC foes.
  • Last conceding against an ACC opponent in the second minute of a 1-1 draw with then-No. 7 Syracuse on Sept. 16, Wake Forest has gone 448 consecutive minutes of action without allowing a goal in conference play.
  • Notre Dame, meanwhile, leads the ACC in goals against per game at 0.50 and have recorded eight clean sheets including each in the Fighting Irish's last four outings.
  • The Demon Deacons and Fighting Irish will share the field together for the 15th time during Wake Forest's 2023 Senior Day. Wake Forest leads the all-time series against Notre Dame at 7-5-2, with four of those victories coming in Winston-Salem.
  • This will be the first showdown between the two programs at Spry Stadium since Oct. 26, 2019.
Last Time Out
  • Wake Forest closed out non-conference action with a commanding 5-1 victory over Robert Morris.
  • The Deacs took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break following goals from Roald Mitchell in the 21st minute and Leo Guarino in the 33rd minute.
  • In the second half, Jahlane Forbes (56th minute), Jeffrey White (65th minute) and Julian Kennedy (66th minute) also registered goals for the Deacs.
  • Despite Robert Morris striking at the 65:26 mark off a deflection, Wake Forest responded 30 seconds later when Kennedy scored for the fourth time in six matches.
  • Wake Forest finished the night with more shots (23 to 6), shots on goal (10 to 2), corner kicks (8 to 1) and possession (65 percent) over Robert Morris.
ACC Atlantic Division Title Up For Grabs
  • With two ACC matches remaining on the season, Wake Forest needs just three more points to secure an Atlantic Division title.
  • Through the first six ACC matchdays of the season, Wake Forest has gone 4-1-1 and the Deacs' 13 points tops the Atlantic Division over Clemson (10 points), Syracuse (nine points), Louisville (seven points), NC State (three points) and Boston College (two points).
  • Against Atlantic Division opponents, Wake Forest is 3-0-1 and holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over second place Clemson due to a 1-0 victory over the Tigers on Sept. 22.
  • Not only would a win secure the program's fifth ACC Atlantic Division title (2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018) but it would also give the Demon Deacons a first-round bye in the ACC Tournament.
Thank You Seniors
  • Prior to the start of Friday night's top-10 showdown, Wake Forest will honor the 2023 senior class of Cristian Ecribano, Jahlane Forbes, Hosei Kijima, Chase Oliver, Oscar Sears, Jake Swallen, Colin Thomas and Garrison Tubbs
  • This class has helped lead the Demon Deacons to 43 appearances in the national polls including being ranked No. 1 in the country six times.
  • Over their four years in the Old Gold & Black, the Demon Deacons have a record of 51-17-6 including three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and clinching a highly competitive ACC South Region during the fall portion of the 2020-21 season.
  • The 51 victories over the last four seasons are tied for the most nationally, as Wake Forest is one of just three programs with 50 or more wins since the 2020 season opener.
  • Earlier this season, they also helped guide Wake Forest to its 100th home victory since the start of the 2015 season.
Winning Streaks Meet Their Match
  • Through Wednesday night's action, No. 3 Wake Forest (eight-straight) and No. 6 Notre Dame (six-straight) hold the longest and third-longest winning streaks nationally.
  • No other ACC program has a current winning streak longer than two-straight victories.
  • The Demon Deacons and Fighting Irish are also tied for the longest streaks of consecutive ACC victories at four-straight.
Scouting the Fighting Irish
  • More than half of Notre Dame's 29 goals this season have come from the combination of Matthew Roou (nine goals) and Eno Nto (six goals). Roou has scored in seven different matches this season – all victories for the Fighting Irish – including ACC wins over NC State, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
  • KK Baffour has registered a team-high five assists.
  • Bryan Dowd, meanwhile, has been a big reason why Notre Dame has only conceded seven times on the campaign, as the senior goalkeeper has recorded 44 saves and sports a paltry 0.54 goals against average.
Looking Ahead
  • Wake Forest will conclude the 2023 regular season next Friday, traveling to Kentucky to face Louisville.
  • Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
