Carr, Hildreth Set for First Appearance at ACC Tip Off
10/23/2023 10:30:00 AM | Men's Basketball
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's basketball duo Andrew Carr and Cameron Hildreth will represent Wake Forest and the men's basketball program this week in Charlotte for ACC Tip Off, ahead of the 2023-24 basketball season.
Head coach Steve Forbes will be joining the team captains at the Hilton Uptown to preview the team, upcoming season, and expectations for the Deacs and the ACC.
Wake Forest is coming off its first appearance in the Quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament since 2009. With an overall record of 19-14 last season and 25-10 in 2022, Wake Forest has had back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2008-09 (24-7) and 2009-10 (20-11). Wake Forest has had back-to-back seasons with double-digit ACC wins for the first time since the 1995-96 (12-4) and 1996-97 (11-5) seasons. The Deacs also had back-to-back 10-0 starts at home for the first time in program history during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.
Since the start of the 2021-22 season, Wake Forest is 31-5 inside LJVM. During that time, Wake Forest won 15-straight games inside Joel Coliseum, which was the longest home-win streak since the Deacs went 22-0 during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. Wake Forest was the first ACC school to reach 31 home wins during the two seasons. With the Jan. 17 win over Clemson, Steve Forbes has defeated every ACC team at least once in less than three seasons.
Senior captain Andrew Carr started all 33 games and finished fourth on the team with 10.8 points per game in 2022-3. He also led the team in rebounds per game (6.2), total blocks (31) and field-goal percentage (49.4, minimum 100 attempts) and scored 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including the clutch game-winning basket at home against App State in December 2022. The Pennsylvania native averaged 20.3 points and 9.3 rebounds over a crucial three-game stretch against Florida State, Boston College and Clemson last season.
Junior captain Cameron Hildreth ranked third on the team in points (12.2) and second on the team in rebounds (5.2), assists (2.9), steals (1.3) and minutes (31.7) at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. He recorded his first career triple-double in the win against Hampton with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, becoming just the third Demon Deacon to complete the feat. It also made Wake Forest the only team in the ACC to have a triple-double in back-to-back seasons by two different players (Alondes Williams in November 2021). The England native tallied a career-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting in addition to four steals in the 15-point victory over Florida State last season.
