Wake Forest Set for Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team has traveled to Charleston, South Carolina for the 2023 Shriners Childrens Charleston Classic. The Deacs will have three non-conference matchups this week, beginning with the Utah Utes on Thursday night (Nov. 16). Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. ET inside TD Arena.
The Demon Deacons are coming off an 80-77 loss at Georgia this past Friday (Nov. 10) – the Deacs' first true road test of the season. Wake Forest went 16-of-18 (88.9 percent) from the free throw line against Georgia. For the season, the Deacs are now a stellar 35-of-39 (89.7 percent) from the charity stripe.
Sophomore Kevin Miller led the charge for the Deacs on Friday night with a game-high 22 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Miller knocked down three three-pointers and went a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe.
Along with Miller, three other Deacs scored double-digit points in Athens. Senior Andrew Carr scored 18 points with eight rebounds. Junior Cameron Hildreth added 12 points, as two of those came from beyond the arc. Hildreth also went 2-2 from the free throw line. Junior Hunter Sallis added 13 points with two threes, two rebounds and two assists.
Junior Matthew Marsh and Carr added two blocks apiece on the defensive side of the court. Miller picked up two steals to add to the Deacs defensive efforts. Freshman Marqus Marion cleaned the boards with eight rebounds for the Demon Deacons.

The Utes (2-0) had five players reach double-figures for the second-consecutive game led by Lawson Lovering's game-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shots with seven rebounds and three assists.
The Utes are led by Cole Bajema's 15 points per game and Keita Keba's nine rebounds per game. Utah has seven players averaging double-figures just two games into the season and are averaging 91.5 points per game on a team shooting percentage of 51.6 from the field and 40.0 behind the arc.
Thursday night's tipoff inside TD Arena will air live on ESPNU.
