Wake Forest Hosts Morehead State in First-Ever Meeting with Eagles

The Demon Deacons will close out the week’s action hosting Morehead State on Friday evening at LJVM Coliseum.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team (1-0, 0-0 ACC) will face Morehead State (1-0, 0-0 OVC) for the first time in program history on Friday evening. 

The contest will tip at 7 p.m. and be streamed on ACC Network Extra. 

Last Time Out
Beginning the campaign with a sixth-straight season-opening victory, the Demon Deacons beat American 88-74 on Monday. 

Offensively, the Deacs were led in scoring by a pair of 20-point efforts from senior guard Mekhi Mason and graduate forward Tre'Von Spillers as five Wake Forest players reached double-digit scoring totals. 

Defensively, Wake Forest recorded 16 steals and five blocks while holding the Eagles to 26.7 percent shooting from three-point territory. 

Sharing Is Caring 
The Deacs recorded 20 assists on 31 made baskets in Monday's 14-point win over American, marking the 11th time in the Steve Forbes era Wake had 20 or more assists in a game and the first time since Jan. 20, 2024. 

Senior guard Nate Calmese recorded nine of the Deacs' 20 assists, most by an individual player for Wake Forest since ACC Player of the Year Tyree Appleby hit that mark five times during the 2022-23 campaign. 

Aggressive Defensive Mentality
In Monday's victory over American, the Demon Deacons recorded their second-most steals in a contest in the Steve Forbes era with 16. Overall, the Deacs turned 18 Eagles turnovers into 32 points.

The Matchup 
The Eagles opened their 2025-26 campaign with a 89-84 victory over Midway on Monday evening. Morehead State was led in scoring by Jon Carroll's 20 points while the team made 34-of-56 attempts from the field. Seven Eagles also recorded three or more rebounds. 

Since the 2020-21 season, Morehead State has recorded 110 victories – most in the Ohio Valley during that span.
