Two Demon Deacons shine at Lambeau Field and Wolford gets promoted to the 53-man roster.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The NFL regular season is over the halfway mark and Wake Forest players are making an impact around the league as the playoff race heats up. Here is how our #ProDeacs performed during the slate of week nine matchups.
Demon Deacon showcase at Lambeau
Two ProDeacs went head-to-head on Sunday afternoon as Zach Tom's Green Bay Packers defeated Kobie Turner's Los Angeles Rams, 20-3 at Lambeau Field. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Packers.
Zach Tom continued to prove why he is considered one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL this season, as he allowed zero sacks and posted the highest pass block grade (78.1) on the team. His protection allowed quarterback Jordan Love to throw for 228 yards (20-of-26) with a touchdown and no interceptions. He also paved the way for 184 yards on the ground for the Packers (4.8 avg.).
The 2022 fourth-round pick has the highest offensive ProFootballFocus (PFF) grade on the Packers this season at 79.6. He also has the highest run block grade (78.6) and pass block grade (75.7) on the team (minimum 400 snaps). Additionally, he has the second-highest offensive PFF grade this year out of all offensive lineman drafted over the last two seasons.
On the other side of the ball, Kobie Turner recorded a career-high 10 tackles (tied for most on the team), including a sack. He also posted the highest PFF grade on the defensive line (65.1). This season, he is second on the Los Angeles defensive line with 34 total tackles, three behind Aaron Donald. His 34 tackles are tied for fifth out of all NFL rookies. Additionally, his 70.4 PFF grade this season is the second-highest out of all rookie interior defensive lineman (Jalen Carter).
Wolford Moved to 53-Man Roster
Fourth-year quarterback John Wolford was officially elevated to the 53-man roster by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. He spent the previous three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and won a Super Bowl with the team in 2022. In his four-career regular season starts, Wolford has posted a 2-2 (.500) record and has thrown for over 600 yards.
While at Wake Forest, Wolford threw for over 8,794 yards (fourth in program history) and 59 touchdowns (third in program history). During his senior year in 2017, he threw for 3,192 yards and 29 touchdowns, both rank third in program history.
