
Deacs in Nation’s Capital to Take on Georgetown

Wake Forest travels to Washington, D.C. to face Georgetown for the first time since 2010 and the fifth time in series history Sunday afternoon with tipoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team is in the nation's capital and is set to face Georgetown Sunday afternoon at McDonough Arena.
The Demon Deacons (3-7) are coming off a big victory over Norfolk State on Sunday, holding the Spartans to 46 points, the fewest allowed this season. The Demon Deacons held the Spartans to 16-of-59 (27.1 percent) from the floor, the lowest percentage they have held a team to this season. It also marked the fifth-time this season Wake Forest held an opponent to under 40 percent from the floor. With 10 forced turnovers against the Spartans, the Deacs have forced double-digit turnovers in every game this season and have turned over opponents 157 times in 10 games. The average of 15.7 turnovers forced per game is an increase from last year's 14.4 turnovers forced per game.
The Hoyas (8-1) have been elite on the defensive end of the floor this season, ranking second in the country with just 46.8 points allowed per game while also holding opponents to just a 32.2 field goal percentage which is sixth in the country. Kelly Ransom spearheads the Georgetown defense, averaging 3.22 steals per game which ranks 10th in the country and her 29 steals overall this season is 17th in the nation. The Hoyas lone loss of the season came back in mid-November by just two points to Brown. Since then, Georgetown has won six games in a row including an 82-58 win at Northwestern earlier this month.
Tipoff for Sunday is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (ET) at McDonough Arena.

The Demon Deacons recorded 10 assists on 16 made baskets (62.5 percent) against the Spartans. It marked the sixth-consecutive game in which the Deacs recorded at least 10 assists and eighth time overall.
This season, the Deacs have assisted 124 of 213 made field goals (58.2 percent).
FORCING TURNOVERS
With 10 forced turnovers against the Spartans, the Deacs have forced double-digit turnovers in every game this season and have turned over opponents 157 times in 10 games. The average of 15.7 turnovers forced per game is an increase from last year's 14.4 turnovers forced per game.

Prior to that, Wake Forest forced 19 Saint Louis turnovers, the second-most the Billikens had committed in a single game this season and it resulted in 20 points on the other end for the Demon Deacons.
In the Deacs' game against BYU, they forced 26 turnovers, marking the most since January 22, 2017 against Georgia Tech when the Demon Deacons also forced 26 turnovers in the game. Additionally, it was the first time since December 18 and 21, 2017 against Charlotte and College of Charleston that Wake Forest has produced 20 or more opponent turnovers in back-to-back games. It marked the first time since March 16, 2017 (Washington State) that a Power-5 team had forced BYU into 26 or more turnovers.

Through eight games this season, the Demon Deacons have seen a massive uptick in shooting percentage, going from 66.0 percent (343-of-520) last season to 74.3 percent (113-of-152) this season.
Wake Forest is totaling 11.3 free throws made per game this year compared to last year's 10.1 free throws made per game.
Kaia Harrison goes into Sunday ranked in the top seven in all three free throw categories in the ACC including shooting 87.0 percent (40-of-46) this season which is fourth in the ACC and 62nd nationally.
ELISE'S LINE
Against James Madison, Elise Williams tallied a team-high 13 points, shooting 6-of-10 from the floor. Additionally, Williams led the team with eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and a 60.0 shooting percentage.
She became the first Wake Forest player since Ivana Raca on Feb. 7, 2019 against Clemson to have 13 or more points, eight or more rebounds, four or more assists and three or more steals in a single game. Williams is the only Wake Forest player in the HerHoopsStats era (2009-10) to have this statline or better on the road.
SCRUGGS BREAKOUT
Senior guard Alexandria Scruggs led the team with a season-high and game-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting (60 percent) in addition to a team-high five rebounds against Texas A&M.
It was her first game with double-digit points this season and first time leading the team in scoring.
Additionally, she is the seventh different Demon Deacon to lead the team in the first seven games of the season.
She was one point away from her career of 17 points set during the 2020-21 season at North Carolina.

- As a team, Wake Forest went 13-of-16 (81.3 percent) from the free throw line, the third-highest percentage of the season and third time the Deacs finished above 80 percent.

- Wake Forest built an early lead but then-No. 12 Georgetown withstood the run and pulled out a 64-49 victory on Dec. 4, 2010 at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
- The Demon Deacons built an 18-9 lead ten minutes into the game but shot just 21 percent over the rest of the contest. The sluggish shooting could be attributed to Georgetown's defensive pressure which forced 22 Demon Deacon turnovers and turned those into 27 points.
