Wake Forest Hosts NJIT in Holiday Hoops at the Joel

12/8/2023 2:50:00 PM | Men's Basketball

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team is set to host the New Jersey Institute of Technology in the midst of a seven-game home streak to close out 2023. The Deacs and Highlanders will face off at 8:00 p.m. ET on Saturday evening (Dec. 9) inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the game will air live on ACC Network.

Wake Forest is coming off of a 76-57 home win against Rutgers on Wednesday. The contest marked the 25th consecutive home win against a non-conference opponent, dating back to December 2018. Wake Forest now stands at 35-5 overall inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum since the start of the 2021-22 season.

The Demon Deacons have won their last three games and the 19-point win over the Scarlet Knights was their largest over a power five non-conference opponent since the 110-76 victory over LSU back on Dec. 22, 2016. The Deacs' 76 points are tied the most allowed by the Scarlet Knights so far this season (Illinois). Of note, Rutgers ranked sixth in the nation averaging 58.4 points per game.

Wake Forest was led by sophomore guard Boopie Miller, who tallied 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including a 4-of-8 clip from beyond the arc. He also added four assists and a pair of steals. It was his third time this season reaching 20-or-more points (Georgia and Towson).

With two blocks, senior forward Andrew Carr reached 100 for his career and leads the team this season with 19. He is just the 16th player in program history to reach the 100-block milestone. The West Chester, Pa. native also recorded 10 points, six rebounds and a steal.

In his Demon Deacon debut, Efton Reid III recorded his second-career double-double and joined Carr as the only two Wake Forest players to record one this season. He finished with 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. His 14 rebounds marked the most by a Demon Deacon this season and most since Carr's 14-rebound performance last season against Utah Valley (11/15). The Gonzaga transfer also added a pair of blocks and a steal to complete his all-around debut performance.

Saturday night's tipoff inside LJVM will air live on ACC Network.

Ticket Information
Since the start of the 2021-22 season, Wake Forest is 35-5 inside LJVM.
