Wake Forest Set to Visit NC State for Final Regular-Season Big Four Test

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team travels to Raleigh Wednesday night (Feb. 22) for the final Big Four matchup of the season. Tipoff against the Wolfpack is set for 9 p.m. in PNC Arena and the game will air live on regional Bally Sports networks.
 
Wake Forest (17-10, 9-7) is coming off a hard-fought battle in Miami on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 18). The Deacs fell to the No. 13 Hurricanes, 96-87, in the Sunshine State. Wake Forest is currently seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) standings, three games back from the Wolfpack, who are fifth.
 
With 15 made three-pointers on Saturday, Wake Forest was the only team this season to make more than 12 triples against Miami. The Deacs went 15-of-35 from deep on 42.9 percent shooting. The Deacs were also one of just three teams to shoot 55 percent or better against Miami this season. Wake Forest shot 55.2 percent from the field, going 32-of-58. Wake Forest is the only ACC team and one of just two teams this season to go 100 percent from the free throw line against the Hurricanes. The Deacs went 8-for-8 and Rutgers went 4-for-4 on Nov. 30. Wake Forest is the only ACC team and one of just two teams this season to score more than 85 points on the Hurricanes, finishing with 87, as Maryland scored 88 on the Canes on Nov. 20. For the first time since South Carolina State on Nov. 23, six Deacons finished in scoring double figures, including all five starters. The last team to have six double-digit scorers against Miami was Boston College on March 5, 2021.
 
Tyree Appleby played a significant offensive role in the second half, en route to recording a team-high 15 points. The ACC's assists leader additionally tossed out nine dimes to lead all individuals. Cameron Hildreth posted a line of 14 points (5-of-9 field goals), eight assists and three steals. Daivien Williamson was efficient from three-point territory, drilling four of eight attempts for 12 points. Bobi Klintman came close to a double-double, finishing with eight points and a team-best 12 rebounds. Matthew Marsh was perfect from the floor for 12 points on 5-of-5 field goal shooting. The sophomore big man has not missed a field goal in his last six appearances.
 
As of Monday (Feb. 20), the Wolfpack is receiving votes in the AP Top 25 poll and is ranked No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches poll. They are coming off a 77-69 home win over North Carolina on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 21). Jarkel Joiner led the team with a game-high 29 points. Jack Clark pulled down a team-high eight boards in the win. NC State has been led all season by Terquavion Smith, who averages a team-best 18.1 points in 34.2 minutes per game. Clark leads the team on the glass this season, pulling down 7.0 boards per game. The Wolfpack has only lost one game in PNC Arena this season when they fell, 68-60, to Pitt on Dec. 2, 2022.
