2/3/2023 2:03:00 PM | Men's Basketball

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team heads to South Bend for its first of two matchups against the Notre Dame Irish on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 4). Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. inside Purcell Pavilion and the game will air live on regional Bally Sports networks.

Wake Forest (14-9, 6-6) is coming off a narrow, 75-73 loss against Duke Tuesday night (Jan. 31) inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Deacs were led by Tyree Appleby in scoring for the 10th time this season, as the graduate guard poured in 27 points.

Wake Forest was one of only three teams to go 94 percent or better from the free throw line on 10 or more attempts against Duke this season. The Deacs recorded nine turnovers on the night to Duke's 14. It was the seventh time this season Wake Forest has recorded less than 10 turnovers in a game. The team's 94.1 percent from the free throw line was a season-best and the best since Feb. 24, 2021, vs. Clemson when they went 10-for-10. The Deacs shot 90 percent against La Salle this season.

Tyree Appleby paced the Deacs with a game-high 27 points during the Big Four outing, also adding five rebounds and four assists. It was the graduate guard's 21st game in double-digit scoring and 14th straight.  Additionally, Appleby has now led the team in scoring 10 times this year, reaching over 20 points on eight separate occasions. He also added a team-high five rebounds, his most since he pulled down eight against LMU in November.

Freshman Bobi Klintman recorded a season-high 32 minutes against the Blue Devils and chipped in eight points on 3-of-4 shooting. He went a perfect 2-of-2 beyond the arc. The Sweden native added four rebounds, two assists and a steal to his line.

The Irish (10-12, 2-9) are coming off a 76-62 win at home over the Louisville Cardinals last weekend. Notre Dame is led by Nate Laszewski, who averages 13.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Three other starters are also averaging scoring double figures in JJ Starling (12.5), Dane Goodwin (12.0) and Cormac Ryan (11.5). Goodwin is the only other Irish player pulling down more than 4.5 boards, as he is averaging 5.3 rebounds per game. The Irish are currently 13th in the conference standings.
