Wake Forest to Continue Homestand in Saturday Doubleheader

Two foes, one in state and one out, are set to visit the Deacs.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Home action continues for Wake Forest women's tennis this weekend, as the Demon Deacons will host their third doubleheader of the spring campaign on Saturday (Feb. 8).

Wake Forest (3-3) will first play Furman (1-5) at 11 a.m. ET before competing against UNC Greensboro (3-6) later that afternoon in a 4 p.m. ET showing.

Fans can follow along through available live stats and live streaming.

Last weekend, the Deacs recently split in a Sunday doubleheader (Feb. 5), falling to Old Dominion before bouncing back in a sweep over Campbell.

Last Time Out

Sunday (Feb. 5) – Old Dominion 5, Wake Forest 2

Sunday morning featured the second meeting in eight days between the Deacs and Monarchs. After dropping the doubles point, Wake Forest fought back to create a handful of tiebreakers and third sets before suffering a 5-2 defeat to Old Dominion.

Casie Wooten shined individually, notching her fourth career ranked singles win. The junior knocked off No. 37 Tatsiana Sasnouskaya in two sets. Anna Brylin also picked up a solo win.

Wake Forest moved to 11-4 all-time versus Old Dominion.
 

Sunday (Feb. 5) – Wake Forest 7, Campbell 0

Looking to bounce back from the morning loss, Wake Forest came out swinging against the Camels. The Deacons dominated in doubles before sweeping through singles.

Each Wake Forest player won her singles match in straight-sets fashion.

Casie Wooten and Anna Brylin ended with their second solo wins of the afternoon.

Sunday was only the third all-time matchup between Wake Forest and Campbell. The Deacs remain undefeated in the series, 3-0.


"It's a Match!"

The Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center will feature a Valentine's Day theme during Sunday, as spectators will receive a Valentine's goodie bag.


Ranked Deacs

The first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings of the 2023 spring were released earlier this week (Feb. 8), as Wake Forest saw three total individuals among the list.

Brylin and Killingsworth moved up two spots after being ranked 12th in the country this past fall.

Scouting the Opposition

After dropping its first five matches of the spring, Furman recently swept UNC Greensboro, 7-0, this past Sunday (Feb. 5). Jess Dawson, Madison Dillon, and Sara Snyder all have picked up two wins in singles. The tandem of Dawson and Snyder has done the same through doubles competition. The Paladins, currently led by first-year head coach Michelle Dasso, finished the 2022 season with a 22-7 overall record and claimed the SoCon's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by capturing its 21st conference title. Snyder is the reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year, as she and Dawson each earned spots on the SoCon All-Freshman team and also the All-SoCon second team for singles in 2022.

UNC Greensboro is off to a 3-6 start, having beaten Radford in a 7-0, Thursday sweep (Feb. 9) after falling in road tests at Elon and Furman. Raegan Mitchell paces the Spartans in singles (6-2) while Olivia Gallager has added five solo wins of her own. In doubles, Gallagher and Hanna Giddings have collected five victories as a duo.

Wake Forest wraps its five-match homestand next Friday (Feb. 17) with its first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) test of the spring campaign. Big Four foe NC State comes to town, and first serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
