Wake Forest Suffers Sunday Setback at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Playing another outing out of state, No. 25 Wake Forest women's tennis (12-8, 3-4) visited Notre Dame (12-7, 2-5) on Sunday afternoon (March 26). The host team ultimately protected its floor in a 7-0 sweep.

The match marked the end of a four-match road stretch for the Demon Deacons. Eight contests make up the remainder of the team's regular-season slate, six of which will take place at the Wake Forest Tennis Center, where the Deacs are currently 8-2.

Nevena Carton forced two tiebreakers on Sunday.

How it Happened

No. 26 Anna Brylin/Brooke Killingsworth were the first Deacon duo to take a lead in doubles, 2-1.
- Another consecutive game went the way of the ranked pair minutes later.
Notre Dame swept in second doubles.
The Fighting Irish completed another sweep, this time in third doubles, to capture the opening point.
In the early stages of solo play, Nevena Carton grabbed her first two games.
- Brylin won two of her opening three in second singles.
- Splitting two more saw Carton go up 4-2 in the first frame.
Carton next stepped into a first-set tiebreaker.
After dropping her opening set, Casie Wooten tied the second at 3-3.
- The junior split two additional games immediately after.
Mia Ahmad also showed serious fight in a second-set comeback, tallying three straight games.
Notre Dame went up in the match, 3-0, after winning in first and sixth singles.
Brylin battled through rallies to hold a slight 4-3 advantage in the second period.
The Fighting Irish clinched the match with a straight-sets decision in third singles.
- Remaining matches were then played out.
- The host added on an additional point on court five.
Following a second-singles victory by Notre Dame, Carton was the final Deac remaining and tied her court at 5-5 in set two.
- The freshman went on to enter a tiebreaker for the second time of the afternoon.
The Fighting Irish finished off the day on a fourth-singles win.
Wake Forest fell, 7-0.

Wake Forest is back at home next weekend for the first time in nearly four weeks.
