The savvy guard will have a chance to showcase his skills one final time as a college player.
HOUSTON, Texas - Wake Forest men's basketball graduate guard Tyree Appleby will be representing the Demon Deacons at the NCAA Men's Final Four in Houston, Texas, this week (March 30-31).
The All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) first teamer was selected to participate in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Reese's All-Star Game and the State Farm College Slam Dunk & Three-Point Contest. For the latter, Appleby is set to compete in the three-point contest section.
The State Farm College Slam Dunk & Three-Point Contest is scheduled for Thursday (March 30) at 7:30 p.m. ET, televised on ESPN2. On Friday (March 31), action in the all-star game will get underway at 4:30 p.m. ET, airing on CBS Network.
Appleby is the second consecutive Deac selected to participate in both events. At the 2022 Final Four in New Orleans, Alondes Williams participated in the all-star game and the slam dunk contest.
Appleby is coming off his final season of college hoops and his only year at Wake Forest. The six-foot guard led the team in scoring, assists and minutes played all season long. He is also en route to becoming the first player in the history of the ACC to lead the league in points and assists.
On top of representing Wake Forest at the Final Four and being an All-ACC First Team selection, the Jacksonville, Ark. native was also named the Associated Press ACC Player of the year. For the first time in school history, the men's basketball program had back-to-back AP ACC Players of the Year in Appleby and Williams (2022). Appleby went on to further collect accolades of 2023 U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) District III Player of the Year, USBWA District III All-District Team, and NABC District II All-District Team.
