Berry Wins, Fallenius Claims Second in Heptathlon at the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational

The Demon Deacons will now look ahead to the Wake Forest Invitational this Friday.

HICKORY, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's outdoor track & field team wrapped up the heptathlon Sunday at the Southside Power and Fitness Invitational in Hickory, N.C. Junior Addison Berry took gold while freshman Clara Fallenius grabbed silver.

Berry finished with 5,103 points and finished in the top three of all-seven events, including two top spots on the weekend. Fallenius (4,553)

Fallenius opened the day with a victory in the long jump after she recorded a 5.68m. Berry finished a spot behind her with 5.46m.

Berry threw 28.47m in the javelin and claimed third. Fallenius notched 22.60m for sixth.

In the final event of the weekend, Berry ran away with the 800m, as she clocked a 2:22.68 and sealed her heptathlon victory. Fallenius (2:41.77) finished fifth.

From Saturday

The Deacs opened the day with the top-three spots in the 100m hurdles. Bush finished first and clocked a 13.98. Berry (14.27) and Fallenius (14.51) rounded out the top spots. 

All three Demon Deacons finished tied for second place in the high jump as they all cleared 1.60m.

In the shot put, Berry (11.82m) and Bush (11.23m) finished in the top-two spots. Fallenius threw 14.51m and earned fifth.

In the final event of the day, the trio once again took first, second and third in the 200m with Bush (25.23) going fastest followed by Berry (25.36) and Fallenius (26.42).

From Friday

Connor Mathis threw a season-best 48.83m in the men's discus and claimed gold to kick-start the event.

Mason Ellis also recorded a season best, as he notched a 17.10m in the shot put for second place. Mathis picked up another top five finish and threw 14.99m in the event.

Up Next

The Demon Deacons will now return to Winston-Salem and prepare to host the Wake Forest Invitational for the first time since 2018. The event will take place Friday, April 22 at Kentner Stadium.
