Deacs Set to Host First Home Outdoor Meet Since 2018

The one-day event will be free to the public and can be streamed via ACCNX.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For the first time since March 24, 2018, the Wake Forest men's and women's track and field programs will hold a home meet on Reynolda Campus as the Demon Deacons are set to host the Wake Forest Invitational Friday at Kentner Stadium.
24 programs are expected to participate in the meet, including Big Four schools Duke, North Carolina and NC State. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Friday morning, while the last event is tentatively due to begin at 11 p.m.
One of the premier meets slated to take place on the East Coast heading into postseason action, the Wake Forest Invitational will provide an excellent opportunity for student-athletes from across the country to qualify for NCAA Regionals.
Teams Participating
Wake Forest's reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Champion men's cross country squad will be recognized during Friday's meet, along with the Demon Deacons' 1989 men's cross country team. Last year's 2022 team won the ACC title, before going on to place fifth at the NCAA Championships, marking the highest championship finish for the program since the 1989 team finished third.
Of note, 16 seniors (Emily Akin, Dillon Aryeh, Mackenna Curtis-Collins, Jack Dailey, Zach Facioni, Amy Harding-Delooze, Meredith Helton, Joaquin Martinez de Pinillos, Carolien Millenaar, Ben Mitchell, Bianca Nolde-Lopez, Jack Pihlkar, Emma Soderstrom, Thomas Vanoppen, Jason Wagner, Andrew White and Elise Wright) from the Wake Forest men's and women's track & field teams will be recognized during Friday's meet for their time and dedication as Wake Forest student-athletes.
Friday's Fun Events & More
Parents and Alumni Tailgate: Noon - 8 p.m.
Kick-off the day at the Miller Center Plaza with track and field alumni, family and friends. Enjoy time around food and drinks, while cheering on the Deacs throughout the day! Tailgating will start at noon for lunch and conclude at 8:00 p.m. There will be dinner and other food/snacks provided as well throughout the afternoon.
Alumni Mile - 7:15 p.m.
Watch some of your favorite Deacs from years past compete in the mile.
Student 4x100m Relay - 7:50 p.m.
Eight teams constructed of four Wake Forest University students will race for the title of "Fastest Team at Wake Forest" in a competitive 4x100 meter relay.

On March 18 at the Bob Webb/Bill Davidson Memorial, graduate student Leia Braunagel broke the school record in the women's discus with a throw of 52.74m.

Highlighted by strong performances in the heptathlon, the Wake Forest men's and women's outdoor track & field teams had impressive outings last weekend at the Southside Power and Fitness Invitational in Hickory, N.C.
