The reigning NCAA Regional Champions will be the No. 5 seed in the region with play set to begin on Monday, May 15.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's golf team was selected to the Norman NCAA Regional Wednesday, as announced on Golf Channel.
The Demon Deacons will be the No. 5 seed in Norman, Okla. They will look to continue their success in regional play after winning the New Haven Regional last year, finishing in first by seven strokes and finishing 24 strokes above the cutline. It marked an ACC record 47th time that the Deacs had qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships at Greyhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
NCAA Regional play will consist of three rounds of stroke play, taking place from Monday, May 15 through Wednesday, May 17.
The Deacs will be looking to ride their momentum off their ACC Runner-Up finish last week in Pinehurst, N.C.
The Demon Deacons are one of two teams to reach the final twice in the three years of the match play format at ACC Championships. The Deacs were led by their underclassmen as they put the team in position to win a title. En route to the title match, Wake Forest finished second in the stroke play portion and then went on to defeat No. 16 Virginia in the semifinal match.
The Deacs will be led by reigning ACC Individual Champion in junior Michael Brennan. He became the 23rd Demon Deacon to win the title, taking home medalist honors after winning on the third playoff hole over Hiroshi Tai of Georgia Tech.
Elite Golf School
Along with the Demon Deacon women's golf team qualifying last year for the NCAA Championships, Wake Forest is one of just three schools in the nation to have both their men's and women's programs qualify for the NCAA Championships during the last three events (Arizona State and Texas).
In the last NCAA Championship in 2019, the men and women's programs advanced to match play. Wake Forest was one of just three schools to have both programs move on to the match play portion of the Championship.
All-Time NCAA Championship Appearances
Wake Forest is 11th in the country and has the highest total in the ACC with 47 NCAA Championship appearances in program history.
