Tewalt and Facioni Primed for NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The duo will compete in the men’s 5k at 10:55 ET Friday on ESPN2.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Following a pair of excellent performances two weeks ago at the NCAA East Prelims, graduate student Zach Facioni and junior Luke Tewalt will return to action Friday to compete in the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
 
Both Deacs will participate in the men's 5000m at 10:55 p.m. ET.
 
Facioni and Tewalt are looking to become the first Demon Deacons in program history to be tabbed All-Americans in cross country and outdoor track & field in the same academic year. Of note, Facioni will be making his third-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Peaking at the Right Time
  • Facioni set a new school record in the 5000m at the Wake Forest Invitational.
    • The Sydney, Australia native clocked 13:27.71.
  • Facioni qualified for Friday's final with the sixth-fastest overall time at the NCAA East Prelims (13:54.15).
  • Tewalt earned two silver medals at the 2023 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as he finished second in both the 1500m and the 5000m.
    • He clocked 3:38.52 in the 1500 and 13:50.57 in the 5000.
  • Tewalt punched his ticket to Austin by finishing third in his heat two weeks ago in Jacksonville with a time of 14:04.79.
