
Wake Forest Garners ITA All-Academic Team Recognition

Four Demon Deacons were tabbed ITA Scholar-Athletes.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After reaching the NCAA Tournament for the 10th-straight season, the Wake Forest men's tennis team garnered Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team honors, as announced by the ITA Monday evening.
In addition to Monday's team recognition, four Deacs (Vikas Deo, Jurabek Karimov, Juan Lopez de Azcona and Ernesto Requena) were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
ITA Requirements
Deo, Karimov, Lopez de Azcona and Requena all played pivotal roles in helping Wake Forest earn 26 wins during the 2023 campaign, marking the seventh time in the last eight years that the Demon Deacons have tallied 25+ wins, with the lone exception being the COVID-impacted 2020 season.
The quartet of Deacs combined to go an impressive 35-17 in dual singles action last season, with Lopez de Azcona and Deo combining to go 8-0 in the fifth singles position.

ITA Requirements
- To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:
- Have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale)
- All student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form
- All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year
- To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:
- Have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
- Be listed on the institutional eligibility form
