Wake Forest Athletics partnered with North Carolina schools to have young boys and girls chosen as “Stars of Honor” for their hard work in and out of the classroom and showing kindness to others.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The energy and excitement around Wake Forest football in the Winston-Salem and Triad communities is palpable as the Deacs are off to a 2-0 start this season and all tickets for the first two contests inside Allegacy Stadium were sold out.
Beyond the hard work by Wake Forest's student-athletes on the field where the Deacs have forced their opponents to commit five turnovers and scored over 35 points in each game, young boys and girls across the state of North Carolina have been able to watch these stellar performances thanks to a forward-thinking program, Stars of Honor.
Stars of Honor and its presenting partner, The Law Offices of Timothy D. Welborn, through partnership with Wake Forest Athletics, have teamed up with elementary schools across the state to help establish goals inside the classroom in order for these children to receive the prize of Wake Forest football tickets for their hard work.
Every school has different needs, whether that be good attendance, reading goals, or good behavior in the classroom. These schools are allowed to choose these needs that best fit their students while partnering with Stars of Honor and Wake Forest.
Teachers determine once a child has met the specific outlined goals.
The teacher then nominates their students and families to receive up to five tickets for Opening Night vs. Elon back on Aug. 31 or for last week's home game against Vanderbilt on Sept. 9. Each student also receives a certificate award and all Stars of Honor are recognized during the game with a public address announcement and recognition on the Bob McCreary Video Board Honoring the Class of 1961.
Overall, there were 1,386 Stars of Honor children and their families at the contest on Aug. 31 and 1,042 honorees inside Allegacy Stadium on Sept. 9.
These tickets are donated by Wake Forest fans, Deacon Club members, and partners of the University who want to see hard-working children in the classroom be incentivized and rewarded by attending Demon Deacons football games.
The impact of being a Star of Honor for their child and coming to a Demon Deacons football game has been extremely appreciated by parents of these children.
Stars of Honor is open to all schools across the state, and if your school was not a part of the program this season for football, please bring this up to your child's teacher as all schools are welcome to participate. Interested parents, teachers and schools should contact Sr. Associate AD Brendan Jones (jonesbre@wfu.edu // 864-313-4566) for more information.

- Brittany Dancy:
- "Stars of Honor provided an opportunity for a young child to feel the rewards of success and achievement. Success that is not given to us, but earned through disciplined work and acts of good integrity. Collating the Stars of Honor experience with a glimpse of the not so far away realm of college achievements was exciting and encouraging for my seven year old daughter. This opportunity ignited a spark that my daughter will continue to follow as she finds and follows her dreams."
- Emily Caldwell:
- The Stars of Honor experience was amazing! Thank you for celebrating the hard work and kindness each of these children exhibited in the classroom and at school. What an "honor" to be a part of!"
- Angelica Esparza:
- Our son and his two brothers enjoyed the game. From the sky divers, to the Deacon entrance and of course, fireworks, it was the most fun we had ever had as a family!"
- Nicole Hall:
- My son was so excited to receive the honor of being recognized as a "Star of Honor." This was his first college sports experience, and he was so excited to be amongst so much excitement and fun. He is very proud of the certificate he was given, and was happy to see the "Stars" mentioned during the game on the big screen! Not only did he have an awesome experience, but it made him excited for the prospect of being a future college student himself."
