The Matchup
  • Wake Forest and Clemson will renew a longtime rivalry on Friday night at Spry Stadium as each team looks to add points in a highly competitive early race in the ACC's Atlantic Division.
  • The Demon Deacons are 4-1-3 on the year following Tuesday night's 3-1 victory over Liberty in the program's Mental Health Awareness Match.
  • Wake Forest checked in at No. 14 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, one of five ACC teams ranked inside the top-15.
  • Clemson, meanwhile, is 5-2-1 on the year and enters Friday's contest riding a three-match winning streak following a 7-0 victory over Gardner-Webb in the team's most recent appearance on the pitch.
  • Last season, the two teams split their meetings with each winning on the opponent's home field. Wake Forest scored a 6-1 victory at Historic Riggs Field in September before Clemson notched a 2-0 victory in November at Spry.
  • The matchup will be the 55th all-time meeting in their respective histories as the Demon Deacons lead the series 25-21-8 and are 7-4-2 against the Tigers under head coach Bobby Muuss
  • The Deacs have picked up 12 victories over the Tigers in Winston-Salem but will be looking for their first home victory over Clemson since a 2-0 decision on Oct. 30, 2020.
Last Time Out
  • Wake Forest continued a four-match homestand on Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory over Liberty, as the Deacs wore special green jerseys for mental health awareness.
  • The Demon Deacons took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break following a first half brace from Roald Mitchell
  • Early into the second half, Liberty cut the Wake Forest lead in half with a 53rd-minute goal before the Deacs responded just five minutes later with a goal courtesy Sidney Paris
  • The 3-1 victory marked Wake Forest's fourth victory of the season, all of which have come at Spry.
The Strength of Spry
  • With victories over Grand Canyon, Furman, Gardner-Webb and Liberty along with draws against Cal and No. 7 Syracuse, Wake Forest is currently 4-0-2 on the year in home matches while outscoring opponents 17-5 in those contests.
  • With this senior class, Wake Forest over the last four seasons at Spry Stadium is 32-7-3. Additionally, since Bobby Muuss' first season as head coach in 2015 Wake Forest is 98-16-8 in matches played in Winston-Salem.
  • The Deacs' 98 home victories are 20 more than any other program over the last nine seasons and only Clemson (75) and Virginia (72) join Wake Forest as ACC programs with more than 70 home wins over this span.
  • With an 83.6 percent winning percentage at home under Muuss, Wake Forest also holds the ACC's best home winning percentage over the last nine years and ranks third nationally behind only Indiana (84.8) and New Hampshire (84.5).
Success In The Nation's Strongest Conference
  • Wake Forest will be looking for its first ACC win of the 2023 campaign on Friday night following a loss to Pitt and a draw with No. 7 Syracuse through the team's first two conference matches.
  • The ACC is proving to be both deep and competitive so far this year, with five teams ranked in the top-15 of the United Soccer Coaches poll, six teams ranked in the top-20 of RPI and every school earning at least one point through the first two weeks of conference play.
  • The Demon Deacons hold the ACC's longest active NCAA appearances streak at 12-straight years, trailed by Clemson and Pitt who have made each of the last four NCAA Tournaments.
Scouting the Tigers
  • Clemson is currently 5-2-1 on the season following three-straight victories over USF (3-2), current No. 11 Duke (2-0) and Gardner-Webb (7-0).
  • Seven different Tigers scored in Tuesday's victory over the Runnin' Bulldogs, as Clemson currently ranks fourth nationally in goals per game at 3.00.
  • A balanced attack for Clemson has seen 12 Tigers score on the season, led by Mohamed Seye's four goals in five appearances. Eleven Clemson players have also registered an assist, paced by Ousmane Sylla who has four.
  • Joseph Andema has started all eight matches in goal, recording 16 saves with a 1.07 goals against average.
Looking Ahead
  • Wake Forest will play the first of three-straight road matches by traveling across the state for a Tuesday night match at Campbell.
  • Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed on FloFC.
