
Three-Peat Champions Return to Winston-Salem for Celebration Weekend

The Wake Forest field hockey program is hosting an alumni celebration ahead of their Sunday contest for the three-peat national title teams from 2002-04.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 17 Wake Forest field hockey team will face in-state foe App State Sunday at Noon after a weekend of alumni celebrations honoring the three-time national championship teams.
Opponent/Series History
The last time Wake Forest played App State in the regular season was last season which resulted in a 3-2 overtime victory. Wake Forest holds a 39-16-1 record when playing the Mountaineers.
The Demon Deacons have matched up against App State at least every season from 1975-2023 excluding the 2020 season. The Deacs currently hold a 30-game series win streak against the Mountaineers heading into their match-up.

During the first quarter of Saturday's football game, the three-time national champion field hockey teams from 2002-04 will be honored on the field. Wake Forest alumni from all three teams will be in attendance as this year celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Demon Deacons' second national championship in 2003.
The 2023 Wake Forest field hockey team will be on the field later in the first quarter to be recognized after a great start to the season that included a 1-0 victory two weeks ago over No. 4 Michigan and a home win last weekend over James Madison.

- 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm: Reunion Celebration Party in honor of the three-time National Championship team
- There will be a discussion panel with two players from each of the three teams, along with coach Averill, and the panel will be moderated by Senior Associate AD for Development Mike Piscetelli in the Lowden Family Gym
- 9:00 am - 11:00 am: Field Hockey Reunion Tailgate
- 11:00 am: WF Football vs. Vanderbilt
- Coach Averill will ride out on the motorcycle with the Deacon for the Open the Gate
- On-field Recognition during the first quarter
- 10:00 am - 12:00 pm: Pre-match Field Hockey Tailgate on Miller Center Plaza
- 12:00 pm: Field Hockey vs. App State
